UPS Peppol ID Error: How to Fix the "Peppol ID Prefix" Problem
Are you seeing a "Peppol ID" or "Peppol ID Prefix" error when trying to update your billing information on UPS? You're not alone. Since the EU e-invoicing mandates took effect, UPS now requires a valid Peppol ID for electronic invoicing. This guide explains exactly what this means and how to fix it.

What is the UPS Peppol ID error?
When managing your UPS account or billing settings, you may encounter an error message asking you to provide a "Peppol ID" and "Peppol ID Prefix". The error typically appears as:
"Please correct the following: Peppol ID, Peppol ID Prefix"
This error occurs because UPS needs your Peppol identifier to send you electronic invoices (e-invoices) instead of paper or PDF invoices. This is now required in countries with e-invoicing mandates, including Belgium, Italy, and others.
Why does UPS ask for a Peppol ID?
Since January 1, 2026, Belgium requires all B2B invoices to be sent via the Peppol network as structured e-invoices. UPS, as a B2B supplier, must comply with this regulation. That means UPS needs your Peppol ID to deliver invoices to your company electronically.
This is not just a UPS requirement — any company invoicing Belgian businesses now needs a Peppol ID to send you legally compliant invoices.
How to find your Peppol ID
Your Peppol ID consists of two parts: a prefix (also called "scheme") and your company identifier. For Belgian companies:
Belgian Peppol ID format
Peppol ID Prefix
0208
Peppol ID
0123456789
Your Peppol ID Prefix is always 0208 for Belgian companies. Your Peppol ID is your 10-digit enterprise number (KBO/BCE number).
How to get your enterprise number from your VAT number
Your enterprise number is derived from your Belgian VAT number by removing the "BE" prefix and dots:
| Your VAT number | Peppol ID Prefix (UPS) | Peppol ID (UPS) |
|---|---|---|
| BE0123.456.789 | 0208 | 0123456789 |
| BE0987.654.321 | 0208 | 0987654321 |
Peppol ID Prefix for other countries
If your company is not in Belgium, use the prefix for your country:
| Country | Peppol ID Prefix | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| Belgium | 0208 | KBO/BCE enterprise number |
| Netherlands | 0106 | KvK number |
| Germany | 9930 | VAT number (DE prefix) |
| France | 0009 | SIRET number |
| Italy | 0211 | Codice Fiscale |
| International (GLN) | 0088 | Global Location Number |
Step-by-step: fix the UPS Peppol ID error

In the UPS "Peppol ID Prefix" field, enter: 0208
Enter your Peppol ID
In the UPS "Peppol ID" field, enter your 10-digit enterprise number: 0123456789

Save your billing settings. If the error persists, double-check that your enterprise number is exactly 10 digits and that you are using the correct prefix for your country.
Important: you must be registered on Peppol
Entering a Peppol ID on UPS is not enough. Your company must also be registered on the Peppol network through an Access Point. Otherwise, UPS cannot deliver the e-invoice to you. Use our free Peppol check tool to verify your registration.
I don't have a Peppol ID yet
If your company is not yet registered on the Peppol network, you need to sign up with a Peppol Access Point first. This is a service provider that connects your company to the Peppol network.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Peppol ID Prefix?
The Peppol ID Prefix (also called "scheme") identifies which country and registration system your Peppol ID belongs to. For Belgium it's 0208 (based on the KBO/BCE enterprise number). Each country has its own prefix.
Can I use my VAT number as Peppol ID on UPS?
No. Do not enter your full VAT number (like BE0123.456.789). Enter only the 10-digit enterprise number (0123456789) in the Peppol ID field, and 0208 in the prefix field.
The error persists after entering my Peppol ID. What now?
Check the following:
- Ensure the enterprise number is exactly 10 digits (including leading zeros)
- Do not include the "BE" prefix or any dots
- The prefix must be 0208 for Belgium (not 9956 or another old scheme)
- Your company must be registered on Peppol — verify here
Is this only for Belgian companies?
No. UPS requires Peppol IDs for companies in all countries with e-invoicing mandates. The prefix differs per country (see the table above). If you are in the Netherlands, use 0106 with your KvK number.
How do I check if my company is registered on Peppol?
Use our free Peppol Radar tool. Enter your enterprise number or VAT number and you'll see immediately if your company is active on the Peppol network.
