1. What is Peppol registration?

Peppol registration is the process of connecting your business to the Peppol network. Once registered, you get a unique Peppol Participant Identifier (your Peppol ID) that allows you to send and receive structured electronic invoices with any other registered business worldwide.

Think of it like getting an email address, but for invoices. Once you have your Peppol ID, any business on the network can send you e-invoices. And you can send to them.

Global network

Connected to 300,000+ businesses across 40+ countries

Legally compliant

Meets the Belgian e-invoicing mandate since January 2026

Instant delivery

E-invoices are delivered in seconds, not days

2. Who needs to register for Peppol?

Since January 1, 2026, all Belgian VAT-registered businesses that send B2B invoices must be able to send and receive e-invoices via Peppol. This includes:

  • Sole proprietors (eenmanszaken) with a VAT number
  • BV, NV, VOF, CommV and all other company forms
  • Freelancers (zelfstandigen) issuing B2B invoices
  • Non-profits (VZW/ASBL) with VAT obligations

Exemptions

Small businesses under the VAT exemption scheme (kleine onderneming / forfaitaire regeling) and purely B2C businesses are not required to send e-invoices via Peppol. However, they must still be able to receive them. Read more about who is and isn't required.

3. What you need before registering

Peppol registration is straightforward. You will need:

1

Your KBO/BCE enterprise number

This is your 10-digit Belgian enterprise number (e.g. 0123.456.789). It becomes your Peppol Participant Identifier with the prefix 0208:. For example: 0208:0123456789.

2

A Peppol Access Point provider

You cannot connect to Peppol directly. You need a certified Peppol Access Point as an intermediary. This is the service that sends and receives e-invoices on your behalf (like e-invoice.be).

3

Your contact details

An email address to receive notifications when new e-invoices arrive, and optionally a webhook URL if you want to integrate via API.

4. How to register for Peppol, step by step

The exact process depends on your Access Point provider. Here is how it works with e-invoice.be:

1

Create your account

Go to app.e-invoice.be/register and sign up with your email. No credit card required.

2

Enter your enterprise number

Enter your Belgian KBO/BCE number. We automatically look up your company details and create your Peppol Participant Identifier (0208:your-enterprise-number).

3

Get registered on the Peppol network

We register your company on the Peppol SMP (Service Metadata Publisher). This makes your business discoverable. Other companies can now find you and send you e-invoices.

Start sending and receiving

You are now live on the Peppol network. Send e-invoices from the dashboard, upload PDFs for automatic conversion, or integrate via our Peppol API.

How long does registration take?

Creating your account is instant. Registering your company and completing KYC verification takes 24-48 hours because it involves a wire transfer. This is intentional. It ensures that every business registered with e-invoice.be is a legitimate, verified company (excellent KYC/KYB). Some other providers may take even longer.

5. How much does Peppol registration cost?

Peppol registration costs vary by provider. Here is a general overview:

Provider typeRegistration feePer-invoice cost
e-invoice.beFreeFrom €0.18/invoice
Accounting software (built-in)Included in subscription€15-50/month subscription
Enterprise Access Points€100-500 setup€0.10-0.50/invoice

With e-invoice.be, there is no registration fee and no monthly subscription. You only pay per invoice sent, starting at just €0.25 per invoice, with volume discounts down to €0.18. Receiving invoices is always free. Read our detailed Peppol pricing breakdown.

120% tax deduction

E-invoicing costs in Belgium qualify for a 120% tax deduction. This means your Peppol costs are effectively subsidized by the government. See our cost guide for details.

6. How to verify your Peppol registration

After registration, you should verify that your company is properly listed on the Peppol network. There are two ways to check:

Use our free Peppol Radar tool

The easiest way. Enter your enterprise number in our Peppol Radar and instantly see if your business is registered, which document types you can receive, and which Access Point you are connected to.

Check your registration

Check the official Peppol Directory

Go to directory.peppol.eu and search for your enterprise number. If your company appears, your registration is active. For a detailed walkthrough, read our Peppol ID lookup guide.

7. Common registration mistakes to avoid

Using VAT number instead of enterprise number

Your Peppol ID uses your KBO/BCE enterprise number (10 digits), not your VAT number (which starts with BE). Remove the "BE" prefix and any dots. Example: VAT BE0123.456.789 → Peppol ID 0208:0123456789.

Registering with multiple Access Points

Your enterprise number can only be registered with one Access Point at a time for each document type. If you switch providers, the old registration must be removed first.

Not registering for receiving

Some businesses only set up sending but forget about receiving. You need to be registered to receive e-invoices too. Otherwise, your suppliers cannot reach you on the Peppol network.

Waiting until the deadline

The mandate is already in effect. If you haven't registered yet, you should do so as soon as possible. Your trading partners may already be trying to send you e-invoices.

8. Frequently asked questions

I use accounting software. Do I still need to register separately?

It depends. Some accounting software packages include Peppol connectivity (e.g. Exact Online, Yuki). Check with your provider. If your software does not support Peppol, you can use e-invoice.be alongside it. We support PDF to Peppol conversion so you can keep your current workflow.
