1. What is e-invoice receiving?
E-invoice receiving is the process of accepting structured electronic invoices from your suppliers through the Peppol network. Unlike PDF invoices sent by email, Peppol e-invoices are machine-readable XML documents that follow the European standard (EN16931). They contain all invoice data in a structured format: supplier details, line items, VAT amounts, payment terms, and more.
To receive e-invoices, your business needs a Peppol Access Point. This is a certified service provider that connects you to the Peppol network. Think of it like an email provider, but for invoices. When a supplier sends you an e-invoice, it travels through the Peppol network and arrives at your Access Point, which delivers it to you.
2. Why every Belgian business needs it
Since January 2026, all Belgian B2B transactions must use e-invoicing via Peppol. This means every business registered in Belgium must be able to receive e-invoices. It is not optional. If your company is not registered on the Peppol network, your suppliers cannot send you compliant invoices.
Legal compliance
The Belgian e-invoicing mandate requires all B2B businesses to accept e-invoices. Registering on Peppol ensures you are compliant. Without it, you may face issues with suppliers who are required to send e-invoices.
No more manual data entry
E-invoices arrive as structured data. Your accounting software can import them directly. No more retyping invoice details from PDFs. No more OCR errors.
Validated before delivery
Every e-invoice is validated against the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 standard before it reaches you. Invalid invoices are rejected at the network level. You only receive invoices that are correctly formatted.
3. How e-invoice.be delivers invoices to your inbox
Most e-invoicing platforms require you to log into a portal to view your invoices. That means yet another tool to check, another password to remember, another tab to keep open. We do it differently.
When you register on e-invoice.be, incoming Peppol invoices are delivered directly to your email inbox. You receive an email with the invoice attached in multiple formats: the original UBL XML, a human-readable PDF, and a structured summary. You can forward it to your accountant, import it into your software, or simply archive it.
Email delivery
Invoices arrive in the inbox you already use. No new tools to learn.
No portal needed
No app to install, no dashboard to monitor. Your email is your e-invoicing inbox.
Multiple formats
Each invoice comes as UBL XML, PDF, and a structured summary. Use what works for you.
Receiving is always free
There is no cost to receive e-invoices on e-invoice.be. No subscription fee. No per-invoice charge. No hidden costs. You only pay when you send invoices. Receiving is free, forever. This applies to all plans, including the free tier.
4. Get started in three steps
Setting up e-invoice receiving takes just a few minutes. Here is how it works.
Register your company
Create an account on app.e-invoice.be. Enter your company details and enterprise number. Account creation is instant. Company verification (KYC) takes 24-48 hours via a wire transfer. This ensures only legitimate businesses are on the network.
Get your Peppol ID
Once verified, your company is registered on the Peppol network with your Belgian enterprise number as your Peppol ID (scheme 0208). Suppliers can now find you and send e-invoices to your company. You can verify your registration using our Peppol Radar tool.
Invoices arrive in your email
That is it. When a supplier sends you a Peppol e-invoice, it arrives in your email inbox as an attachment. You get the UBL XML file, a PDF rendering, and a summary. Forward it to your accountant or import it into your software.
5. API integration for developers
If you are building software or need to process incoming invoices automatically, the email workflow may not be enough. For developers and ERP vendors, e-invoice.be offers a full REST API to receive e-invoices programmatically.
Webhooks for real-time delivery
Configure a webhook URL and get notified the moment a new e-invoice arrives. Your system can process it automatically without any polling. This enables fully hands-off invoice processing.
JSON and UBL formats
Retrieve incoming invoices as JSON (easy to work with) or the original UBL XML (for archiving or forwarding). The API returns all invoice fields in a flat, developer-friendly structure.
SDKs for popular languages
We provide SDKs for Python, TypeScript, Java, PHP, and Ruby. Integrate Peppol receiving into your application in minutes, not weeks. See the API documentation for details.
